Current Challenge: Business Spending

So I have a confession to make. I spend too much money. I know, I know, you’re like “Well, duh, Dumpling, so does everyone – life is expensive!” And that’s true. However, I’ve done a decent job of dialing back structural spending, and I don’t spend much beyond that. So, on the personal side I’m doing ok with peaks up into good.

No, I’m talking about spending on my business. I sell on Amazon, eBay, and Facebook. Spending is generally light on sale items for Amazon and eBay. Those are books I’ve scanned and know I can make my margin on (for Amazon) or stuff I have around the house from years of pack-rattitude (eBay). The problem child has become Facebook. I joined a group to sell some old RPG books (Role-Playing Games for the non-nerds among you) and I did so. Then…I started buying stuff.

I justified it by saying that I was buying product to sell, and it is, and I have. But the buying is coming at a faster pace than the selling at the moment, so I’m a bit cash poor. I have a large backlog of higher value items I hopefully bought well enough that I can make a good margin on them, but they’re not walking out the door as quickly as I would hope.

So, that’s my goal: to sell a bunch of crap in the next month and re-commit to the ongoing outflow of material from the house. Stay tuned to see how it goes. Quick reminder – there will be an update next week, and I’m hoping to tell you all about the house fire soon…
